DNOW 2015 #DNOWweekend

This weekend, I had the tremendous opportunity of participating in FBC McKinney's DNOW weekend. We had a blast, as many were challenged to follow Christ. For some, this was a renewing of a past commitment. And for others, they chose to follow Christ for the fist time.

The central verse of the weekend was Matthew 4:18-19, which reads, "While walking by the Sea of Galilee, [Jesus] saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." In this passage, Jesus calls the first disciples to abandon all worldly and selfish ambitions - and follow Him.

This passage is an echo of an Old Testament prophecy. In Jeremiah 16:16a we read, "Behold, I am sending for many fishers, declares the LORD, and they shall catch them." In this passage, God the Father sent fishermen to gather Israelites for the coming Exile. In the New Testament passage, Jesus called these men (aka "fishermen") to announce the end of Israel’s spiritual exile and to prepare for His coming kingdom.
